Seagate Stories

Find a story hook and develop it into something useful.

Seagate Stories is a separate narrative inspiration project. Browse intrigue, information, events, mysteries, and dangers, then keep a promising hook and develop longer fiction or plot threads that could help your game.

What it helps you do

Browse story hooks

Explore different kinds of narrative prompts rather than starting every idea from a blank page.

Keep a useful thread

Save and develop selected ideas into longer material you can return to.

Read or listen

Use supported reading and text-to-speech views for story material.

Take material with you

Export individual stories or batches to PDF for review outside the app.

Use campaign names as context

Browse linked character and household context for inspiration without changing character mechanics.

Getting ready

Use the available project preview to browse the feed. This standalone inspiration app is separate from the NPC story letters in Seagate Households. Treat a hook as material to review against your campaign: it is not automatically an approved event, a complete adventure, or a freshly generated daily news service.

Decide whether you want to read one story, listen to its narration, or assemble a small selection for a handout. Story expansion, audio, and batch PDF export involve different generation and saving steps. Keep a copy of the material you intend to use and check its names, dates, and implications before sharing it.

How to use Seagate Stories

  1. Browse the feed and choose a useful hook

Start with the ten-story view, or choose 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, or 100 entries. Scan each card’s title, short summary, event type, and time. The scrolling ticker repeats loaded stories; it does not establish that new news has arrived. Look for a situation your group could investigate, rather than assuming every card belongs in the campaign.

  2. Use the character selectors for context

Select a player, then one of their characters, and inspect the associated saved NPC names. Changing an earlier selection resets the dependent choices. These names help you remember who might care about a hook. They do not load a full character sheet or automatically personalise the generated story: expansion receives the hook summary itself.

  3. Open the story and review the expansion

Open a card to read its detail. A saved expanded summary is reused; when none exists, opening the page starts generation automatically. Read the result for atmosphere and possible leads, then decide what fits established lore. The text is narrative inspiration, so supply your own encounters, checks, consequences, and GM decisions before treating it as a playable scene.

  4. Check that useful text was saved

After generating an expansion, the app attempts to save it for later visits. Generated text may remain visible even if that save fails. Check the available saved state before relying on future retrieval, and retain your reviewed version separately when needed. The current flow does not provide a versioned editorial history or a separate campaign approval process.

  5. Listen to a story if that helps

In Read Aloud, choose Studio Narrator or News Reporter and press Generate & Play. Use the browser player and choose a playback speed of 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, or 1.5. Audio generation is separate from text expansion. The narration is held for the current story in browser state, so do not assume it has become a permanent shared audio library.

  6. Export a reviewed selection as a PDF

Tick the cards you want on the feed and choose Export Selected Stories as PDF. The combined handout includes titles, dates, types, original summaries, and freshly expanded text. Batch export regenerates each expansion rather than reusing and saving the detail-page version. Inspect every page: an item that fails can leave a failure page while the remaining stories continue.

A game example

Turn a town rumour into an opening scene

For example, choose a hook about missing river cargo and open its expanded story. Check the named locations and organisations against your game, then take the useful atmosphere into GM Mentor. Add a witness, one immediate decision, and a consequence if the group delays. If you export the hook with two other leads, read the resulting PDF again because its newly generated expansion may differ from the version you first reviewed. The players can choose which lead to pursue; the hook does not predetermine their answer.

What you keep

A selected story and possible leads

Original hook metadata and expanded prose to review and adapt into your own campaign preparation.

An optional listening version

Browser narration for the current story, with voice and speed choices; persistent shared audio storage is not established.

A multi-story handout

A combined PDF of selected hooks and new expansions, checked for failed items and consistency before distribution.

How it fits with the other apps

Common questions

Will selecting my character change the generated story?

The current expansion uses the hook summary, not the selected character’s full history, NPC relationships, or statistics. Use the selectors as context, then adapt the text yourself. Choosing a character does not make the generated events accepted campaign truth.

Will the PDF contain the same expansion I read earlier?

Not necessarily. The batch PDF flow generates fresh text for each selected hook and does not persist those batch expansions back to the story records. Review the actual PDF you plan to share rather than relying on your earlier detail-page review.
